Water Pollution
Water pollution from an incinerator at Woodlawn could occur in a number of different manners
- Stack emissions settling and then running off
- Leachate from the Woodlawn site - including landfill as this is where both the bottom ash and the supposedly stabilised hazardous fly ash will be dumped forever. (Veolia is yet to publish an official manner of how they plan to stabilise this fly ash) - leachate from waste awaiting incineration
- Already higher levels of some compounds found in creeks/waterways following EPA testing ( see attached docs)
- However it is not just Tarago locals who need to be concerned over water pollution it is also Sydney residents. The Sydney water catchment starts at Tarago extending to Waragamba Dam and given it covers only 2% of the state yet it supplies 60% of the population. Thus it is a critical area for the water security of NSW, do we really want to chance its pollution
